KitchenAid Artisan vs. Professional 600 (2026): Which Stand Mixer Is Right for You?
Last updated: May 2026
KitchenAid's two main stand mixer lines are aimed at different cooks. The Artisan is the standard home mixer. The Professional 600 is for heavier workloads. Here's how to choose between them.
At a glance
| KitchenAid Artisan (KSM150) | KitchenAid Professional 600 | |
|---|---|---|
| Bowl size | 5 quarts | 6 quarts |
| Motor | 325 watts | 575 watts |
| Head design | Tilt-head | Bowl-lift |
| Weight | ~26 lbs | ~29 lbs |
| Colors available | 20+ | More limited |
| Price range | $350–$450 | $500–$600 |
The fundamental difference: bowl-lift vs. tilt-head
Tilt-head (Artisan): The motor head tilts back on a hinge. Convenient for frequent ingredient additions mid-mix.
Bowl-lift (Professional 600): The bowl rises up into a fixed motor head via a lever. More stable under heavy loads: the design used in commercial equipment.
Motor power: when it matters
The 325W vs. 575W difference matters for heavy bread doughs (bagel, whole wheat, rye), large batches, and frequent heavy use. For whipped cream, meringue, cake batter, and light cookie dough, the Artisan handles everything without motor strain.
The attachment ecosystem
Both models use the same front hub and the same attachments (pasta roller, food grinder, ice cream maker, etc.). This is not a differentiating factor between models.
The verdict
The Artisan is the right choice for most home bakers. The Professional 600 is correct for heavy bread bakers and large-batch bakers who will stress the Artisan's motor. The attachment ecosystem is identical: that's not a deciding factor.
